 | Argentinus has classical Hannoverian lines and type. He is my favorite
stallion to add topline and bulk to lean mares. It is difficult with
frozen semen though and poses a challenge and risk to American
breeders. He has longevity on his side however as he is continuing to
live a long productive life.
Argentinus was born at Jacob Büther's farm. His dam, named Dorle, was 15 years old when Argentinus was born. "Dorle had a very sweet disposition and was a loyal mare with a wonderful personality" remembers the breeder's daughter, Jutta Hagner, who describes the State Premium mare as "a work horse, a bit on the heavy side - the way all Hanoverians were in those days." Mr. Büther sold the Argentan son to Jan Munderloh
as a weanling. Heinrich Klatte saw him during the pre-selections for the Oldenburg approval. "At that time, Argentinus was already a very impressive horse. He stood out as soon as he came into view." Klatte
wanted to buy the bay stallion. Negotiations went on for two days and finally was settled with Klatte also having to buy two very average yearlings in a package deal with Argentinus. 65,000 DM was the going rate to take the Hanoverian and the two yearlings home. The rest is history. |
